Cat Caffe: A Coffee House with the Cutest Residents

A blog about the cutest cafe bar in town. Other cafes can impress with their sweet interior design or with their nice drinks, but this one has the help of seven animals whose main weapon is cuteness. If you need a relaxation of therapeutic proportions, this is the spot for you.

We've already written something about the Cat Caffe in the blog about the perfect Valentine's Day, but it has been delighting its visitors day in day out, so we simply decided to take our time and write a blog just about this utopia for cat lovers that is Cat Caffe.

The location, entrance and the rules

Cat Caffe is situated at the address Kušlanova Street 6, the same street as the high school but on its other end. You can easily access it by car if you are coming from the south side and if you decide to go by public transport, the best way is to approach it from Maksimirska Road with the tram lines 4, 5, 7, 11 and 12.

As soon as you enter, you'll notice that there are double doors on your way in. They're there, of course, so the cats wouldn't run out, but as soon as you enter. You will see that they don't really have a reason to run away. As soon as you are seated, a waiter approaches you and nicely ask you to read the rules. Those rules are there so that everyone could enjoy their stay at the cafe, the cats, and the guests. Basically, you aren't allowed to feed the cats as they have their food available at all times, you aren't allowed to lift them either or pet them or touch them when they're sleeping. The rule that you are not allowed to pull their tail or hit them is implied. As opposed to the majority of other cafe bars in Zagreb, smoking is also prohibited in Cat Caffe so that the cats could only breathe the clean air.

The cats are the new black

All the cats were adopted from the Faun Kutina Society. Their names, Frieda, Poussey, Big Boo, Flaritza, Crazy Eyes, Taystee and Nicky all came from the popular TV show "Orange is the New Black." But unlike the girls in orange, these cats really don't miss anything. Besides rules protecting them, they also get protective shots at the end of the day so that the bacteria from different people wouldn't make them sick. In addition to this, their toy collection is so good that an average kid would be proud of it. Not only that, but they have all kinds of different resting stations so that they could sleep and chill in any position that comes to their minds.

Purrfect organization

When the owners, Maja and Domagoj Garvan, got the idea of opening the Cat Caffe, they surely had to go through a lot of paperwork so that they could open the cafe with cats inhabiting it. You don't have to be an expert to notice they had to think about every little detail. The bar where drinks are being prepared is closed with a big glass wall so the cats and their hair wouldn't interfere with the drinks preparation. They are also serving some simple food in the form of cakes, and the owners surely had to follow the highest sanitation regulations. Every table has a sanitary liquid on it which you are encouraged to use before and after petting the cats. Almost all of the drinks such as catpurrcino are personalized so they would be cat themed as well as the interior where all of the pictures on the wall are also cat themed. The Cat Caffe is also active on social media through their Facebook page. They are promoting the adoption of the other cats not so fortunate to be fostered by the Cat Caffe.

To conclude, this coffee shop is a perfect haven for taking a moment or two off and relaxing. Just watch out for the youngest, Flaritza, because she likes to settle in your lap. If that happens, you won't be able to leave until she moves. Not that you would want to. Spots like these prove that Zagreb is becoming a real European city with lots of different things to offer!
